Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, was fined $14,069 by the NFL for making a “violent gesture” while celebrating a touchdown pass during a game against the Buffalo Bills on November 17, 2024

The gesture in question appeared to resemble shooting a shotgun, which the NFL deemed inappropriate.

This fine comes after the NFL expressed concerns over “gun-related” celebrations and vowed to enforce stricter penalties.

Mahomes’ fine is part of a larger trend, with the league handing out 17 fines for “obscene gestures” in 2024, compared to none the previous season .

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell emphasized that such gestures “send the wrong message”.

This isn’t Mahomes’ first fine; he was previously fined $50,000 for “verbally abusing” officials during a game against the Bills last December.
