Erin Andrews will have a fun story to tell her son one day
Speaking with PEOPLE about her clothing line, WEAR by Erin Andrews, the sportscaster mom, 45, says one “very sweet” NFL star — Travis Kelce — surprised her with a gift for her son Mack, 7 months, when he was born.
“He was very sweet. We had gifted him, not this year, but last year when we had the Super Bowl on National Tight Ends Day, I did a sit-down interview with him, so I gave him a hat,” Andrews tells PEOPLE.
“He has such great style, and I gave him a hat for National Tight Ends Day. It is his holiday, and it had an Arizona vibe to it, which is where the Super Bowl was last year. And I said, ‘This guy has an Arizona vibe. It would look good coming off the plane in Arizona.’ ”
When the team made it all the way, Andrews saw Kelce step off the plane, with the hat on. “He is just a thoughtful, amazing, cool person that he actually wore it off the plane,” she says. “We, at Fox, thought that was so neat and loved him for it.”
Shortly thereafter, Kelce met one iconic gift with another.
“He was just so great and so sweet. He had found out we had a baby and without us even knowing, sent a gift for Mack, which was so cool and so nice and really shows how thoughtful and a great dude he is,” Andrews shares.
Kelce gifted Andrews’ little boy a “really fashionable outfit that looked like something swaggy Uncle Trav would wear.”
Prior to Mack’s birth, Andrews underwent a 10-year in vitro fertilization (IVF) process during which she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016. “It’s not easy,” the NFL reporter told Today, calling the IVF experience “one of the most challenging things in my life.”
After several failed rounds of IVF, the pair decided to start their family with the help of a surrogate. Unfortunately, they experienced a devastating loss when a set of twins didn’t make it. The couple later restarted the process, which Andrews called their “last hope.”
Luckily, their final IVF transfer worked, and they welcomed their baby boy in the summer of 2023.
“I keep staring at him,” Andrews said when asked about her transition to motherhood. “I want to study everything about him. I want to make up for lost time.”
