King Charles and Kate Middleton will no doubt be hoping 2025 is a better year than 2024 after the two went through their own cancer battles this year.

While the hardships have certainly tested their resolve and strength, Sky’s royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills believes the journey has resulted in the two becoming more humanised in the eyes of the public.

“It’s been a tricky year for the family,” Rhiannon said on the Royal Exclusive. “In a way they’ve been humanised, because of their cancer diagnosis.”

The royal expert added that Kate and Charles’ willingness to discuss their cancer journeys has shown that they are just like the rest of us.

“I think, for the Republican movement, it’s not a great year to try and give the Royal Family a bashing, over money,” she said.

“I don’t think there’s the appetite from the public to have a go at them.”

Kate kept a low profile in 2024
Kate has kept out of the public eye for much of the year while undergoing chemotherapy, though she did make a surprise public appearance alongside Prince William while meeting Southport victims.

It was her first public engagement with her husband since her diagnosis, as she spoke about needing “time, space and privacy” while talking about her treatment earlier in the year.

Kate and William privately met with the families of the three children who lost their lives, as well as dance teacher Leanne Lucas who was present during the attack.

“It’s been so rare to see her out in public this year,” Rhiannon said.

“We knew that Prince William was going to go to Southport, we knew he was going to meet privately with the families.

“And then it was only literally an hour before he was due to arrive, we were told that the Princess was also going to be there.

“I think for William and Kate, what they can do and what we saw on that day, is they can bring attention back to a community that may have felt forgotten.”
