Meghan Markle and Prince Harry pose fresh headache for Royal Family with ‘toxic issue’

Published

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to face a “toxic issue” which could spill over and worry the Royal Family after Donald Trump won the US election it has been claimed.

As the Republican victor prepares to enter the White House in January, questions surrounding the Duke of Sussex’s visa statement are coming into question once again.

Speaking to GB News ahead of the election, Trump told host and ally Nigel Farage that he would ensure “appropriate action” is carried out if Harry is found to have lied on his visa documentation about the consumption of illegal drugs.

The fractured relationship between the President elect and the Sussexes was made clear in 2020, when the couple urged American voters to stay clear of Trump, urging them to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity”.

Speaking to GB News since his election win, royal historian and commentator Richard Fitzwilliams claimed that re-opening the investigation into Harry could “spark problems” between the incoming President and the Royal Family.

Fitzwilliams explained: “There’s no doubt that this is a pretty toxic issue, but I can’t see that the future administration would want to be involved in problems with the British Royal Family, which obviously would occur if this happened.

“The Sussexes and Donald Trump do not see eye to eye.

He has called Meghan nasty, she called him misogynistic and divisive.

The facts undoubtedly are that they were very careful this last election not to intervene in any sense other than to urge people to vote generally.”

When pressed by host Tom Harwood on the chances that Trump could launch an investigation into Prince Harry’s visa documents, Fitzwilliams was sceptical, noting that the 47th President will have “other priorities” to focus on.

Fitzwilliams stated: “I very strongly suspect that the new administration has other priorities.

And also he [Trump] wouldn’t want the enormous amount of fuss.

“But we’ve seen Nigel Farage get an answer from Donald Trump which implied that this might be looked into, and it might, because the Heritage Foundation, which is a right wing organisation, has been trying to find out what Prince Harry put on his visa application.”

Highlighting the admission from the Duke in his memoir Spare that he did take illegal drugs, Fitzwilliams noted that much of what Harry disclosed in the book “should never have been mentioned”.

He added: “At the heart of this is the fact that what Harry put in Spare was absolutely extraordinary – and also what he discussed when he was giving interviews promoting the book.

“There was a lot in that book that he should never have mentioned.

He talked about the effect different drugs had on him, and it simply was very unwise”.

Tom weighed in on Prince Harry’s visa documentation, claiming that the royal “either lied in the book or lied to the US government” about his drug use.

Fitzwilliams responded: “Well, discretion in this issue is apparently part of the so-called rules.

The Biden administration didn’t want to go into it.

“The judge dismissed the Heritage Foundation’s request in September, but it is perfectly possible that it might be reopened.

“But if it was reopened, it would be very embarrassing for the Sussexes.”
