Prince William and Princess Kate faced a significant security scare in October when masked intruders breached the Windsor Castle Estate, where their family home, Adelaide Cottage, is located.
According to reports, the raiders scaled a six-foot fence at Shaw Farm, part of the estate, and stole vehicles including a black Isuzu pick-up truck and a red quad bike.
The incident occurred just five minutes away from where the couple and their three children-Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6-were asleep.
The alarming breach has left the Prince and Princess of Wales deeply concerned about their family’s safety.
A source revealed, “William and Kate have been pretty shaken up, and it really reinforces the importance of being vigilant and protecting their family’s security at all times.”
The proximity of the incident to their home heightened their distress.
“It’s a huge concern that these raiders were able to scale the fence and make off with stolen vehicles,” the insider added.
The fact that the event unfolded while the family was sleeping underscores the vulnerability they felt.
Police reports confirm that the burglary was reported around 11:45 PM.
The offenders broke into a farm building on Crown Estate land near Windsor, made off with the stolen vehicles, and escaped towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area.
Damaged barriers at Shaw Farm, understood to be the nearest exit to Adelaide Cottage, had to be replaced following the raid.
No arrests have been made yet, but an investigation is ongoing.
Windsor Castle security under scrutiny
This incident has raised questions about the security measures in place at Windsor Castle.
Reports suggest that armed police officers had been removed from two of the castle’s main public entrances due to staffing shortages.
While armed patrols are believed to operate within the castle grounds, insiders say Prince William is closely monitoring the investigation.
“It goes without saying that William will want to be fully informed with whatever measures are deemed necessary moving forward,” said a source.
Princess Kate is also reportedly advocating for enhanced security.
“It’s made her realise what could happen if eyes are taken off the ball and that protective measures need to be tightened,” an insider noted.
Despite their faith in their security team, the couple is determined to ensure their family’s safety remains a top priority.
