Travis Kelce was called out by former NFL quarterback Brett Favre on Thursday morning for yelling at and shoving his head coach Andy Reid during the Super Bowl.
The spotlighted altercation took place early in the second quarter of Sunday’s championship game, when the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was subbed out of the game on the play where running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled the ball away to the 49ers.
Before the game resumed with San Francisco on offense, Kelce had gotten in the 65-year-old Reid’s face and bumped him.
Kelce admitted to privately apologizing at halftime to his head coach, which Reid accepted. The altercation was shrugged off by both as being competitors and trying to do everything possible to win the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs won the Super Bowl 25-22, but the court of public opinion has been much tougher on Kelce for shoving his head coach than Reid was, leading to Favre’s interjection to Jason Whitlock.
Emotions play a big part of it, and sometimes they get the best of you, and that’s what happened there,’ Favre said. ‘… It just was the biggest stage in the football world and he does that to arguably, maybe the greatest coach in history. You just can’t do that.’

Whitlock took the criticism a step further, using Kelce as a prime example of how respect for authority and head coaches is ‘diminishing’ across the board.
Favre agreed with Whitlock, adding that the only place where head coaches are on the correct pedestal as an authority figure is high school.
The criticism for Kelce has also been harsh online after the altercation, with some saying Kelce’s girlfriend, 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift, should see the behavior as a ‘red flag’.
Favre has dealt with his fair share of controversy after his playing career ended. He has been accused of diverting public welfare funds into personal projects, such as funneling ‘$5million into a volleyball arena at his alma mater’.
Since the Super Bowl, further inappropriate behavior from Kelce, according to some, has taken place. First he was too drunk to talk at the Chiefs championship parade on Wednesday.
After the fatal shooting at the end of the parade in Kansas City, Kelce was seen smiling for a selfie with a local policeman.
