Travis Kelce’s dad reacts to Super Bowl win, condemns tragedy that ‘marred’ celebrations
Travis Kelce and the Chiefs took out a second-straight Super Bowl over a week ago, silencing plenty of doubters by lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
The 34-year-old had a solid showing for Kansas City in their dramatic 25-22 overtime victory in the NFL decider over San Francisco, while star quarterback Patrick Mahomes further cemented his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
The game was watched by more fans across the world than ever, largely due to the impact of Kelce’s relationship with global popstar Taylor Swift.
Speaking exclusively on Nine’s Today, Ed Kelce opened up on watching his son earn a third Super Bowl ring and the performances of the Chiefs across the 2023/24 campaign.
“Particularly when you consider that they had a rough season, things did not go the way they wanted for a good portion of the season,” he said.
“There were a lot of doubters out there – but once the playoffs started, they turned it on and the result is they got to pick up another ring. They’ve got three of them now.
”It’s been a good season, it’s been hectic – a lot of travel, but a lot of fun.”
Kelce revealed he missed the post-game party in Las Vegas, which saw both his sons Travis and Jason enjoying the celebrations, given it was “past his bedtime”.
The aftermath of the Super Bowl wasn’t all smooth sailing however, with a horrific shooting incident during Kansas City’s hometown parade marring the result.
”I didn’t go to Kansas City for the parade,” Kelce said.
“But people that were there as soon as that started made sure that they got in touch with me and let me know that nobody I knew was injured.
“It’s a shame that a wonderful celebration like that has to be marred by people who were just feuding with each other.”
Kelce also spoke candidly about his interactions with Swift, describing the singer as ‘grounded’ and ‘down to earth’ despite her worldwide fame.
